History: I have written his entire history here. It's quite long so I moved it into a post.
Personality:

Bruce is a man torn within from his past. Those who do not know of his past will find him to be a quiet man, reserved, almost to the point of being shy, but steady and calm. Though vastly intelligent, after so many years on the run from the United States government, he has learned well to speak on a plain level with people. There is often a dry sense of self-deprecating humor lurking beneath his words if pushed into certain subjects as it is one of the few ways he has learned to handle the disaster that is 'the Other Guy'. Many times he will often pull back, physically or mentally, to calm himself when a conversation is reaching a peak he knows will lead down a dangerous path.

As a doctor, his caring heart truly shines through. His hands gentle, his voice soft, his knowledge sure, he has treated many people in many countries and witnessed the horrible diseases, atrocities, and cruelness that can come with simply being poor, or where one lives. His guilt for what the Other Guy has wrought, and for what he himself has wrought with his gamma radiation work, urges him to keep protecting people, helping them as both a scientist and doctor.

He enjoys many things, ranging from the scientific to the natural. The yoga and martial arts exercises he uses to calm himself in the morning have become more than a way to calm himself and more of a ritual, a way to center himself. And always a good cup of tea helps. He works hard to keep up with the latest in scientific and medical research, to the point of still submitting research and papers under his alias of David Bixby even while on the run.

On the other hand... there is him. Everything in his life is designed to keep the Other Guy under wraps, to keep people safe from what he believes is a terrible monster. Bruce firmly believes them to be two completely separate people, though like a parent of a child, he takes full responsibility for all the Hulk has gone. To a point. He values his freedom dearly and knows he cannot hope to make up for all he has done if he's trapped in a jail, or in a cage of the Army's making. Keeping that freedom, and staying separated from others for their own safety, has led Bruce to become somewhat isolated in his heart, never letting anyone in too close. Not since her.

The Hulk is the opposite of Bruce in almost all ways. Intensely focused on a single thought at a time, little else will enter his mind beyond what he wants in that moment. Never, ever decide that he is merely stupid or slow - little instances have proven that Bruce Banner's intelligence lies at the back of those dark eyes.

The Hulk will act on what is in his mind and if he so desires, say what Bruce never would. He does rarely speak, but in the Hulk's world, actions definitely speak louder than words. There is a dark, sarcastic humor to the Hulk, yet there is also some definition of caring. Those he cares for, he will protect with everything in him.

He may very well smash those that annoy him. Most things do.

Whether fighting alone, to protect, or with allies, one difficult issue with the Hulk is his single-minded focus and incredible radius of destruction can make for others getting harmed unintentionally - not by his own hands, but falling debris, shrapnel, etc.

Items on your character at canon point:

  • Glasses
  • Current clothing of a yellow shirt, grey pants, hiking-style sneakers, and the basics
  • A Stark Cell Phone
  • Wallet, containing ID and information for "David Bixby", all quite legal, about twenty USD, and a well worn photograph of a lovely young woman

  • Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:

The Hulk. Due to his modified genes thanks to his father and the radiation absorbed during the gamma accident while working in the Army, Bruce can turn into the Hulk both at will and against his will. At will seems to produce a more intelligent Hulk that Bruce has the faintest control over and is able to remember pieces of what occurs during his transformed time. Against his will leaves Bruce in a blacked out state, unable to remember anything that occurs. There is nothing of the Bruce people know in this Hulk, which is far angrier, more violent, and more single-minded. However, among very few individuals, there can be glimpses of the man inside as the Hulk can be more gentle with them, even when it is a change completely out of Bruce's hands. (Those currently known are Betty Ross and Tony Stark.)

The Hulk takes almost no damage from known sources and what little damage he does receive heals nearly instantly. He can leap vast distances with ease and his strength is nearly unmatched - in fact, possibly unmatched as the angrier the Hulk gets, the stronger he grows. This strength and healing creates a beast that is a vastly dangerous foe or an incredible protector.

Please note that while any damage done to Bruce before his change will be healed, any damage taken after his change will remain. He himself does not heal like the Hulk.

Doctor Banner himself is considered an incredible genius, with two doctorates - one in Nuclear Physics and the more recent a medical degree focused on the treatment of diseases and genealogy. He is particularly skilled in the areas of radiation (and even more specifically, gamma radiation), biology, and genealogy.

Unfortunately, what could also be considered a 'strength' is also Bruce's weakness, if you were to ask him. Having run from the Army for so long, and his incredibly sheltered upbringing, has left Bruce somewhat at ends about some social norms though he can cover those well, for the most part.

His bodily fluids, though most notibly his blood, are incredibly dangerous to almost any who would come into contact with them or worse, digest them. A single drop of his blood nearly killed a man. He produces a very, very faint radiation that a sensitive instrument may be able to pick up at close distances, and the Hulk far more so.

[This isn't what he was looking forward to. In fact, the opposite, by a long shot. Tony had been sure this would be good for him, to get back into social situations that Bruce had avoided. Tony had forced him into a suit, chatting him up the entire time, until Bruce just let him do whatever he wanted.

So here he stands, looking good in his well tailored suit but feeling like an imposter. Rubbing elbows with the well-to-do of New York and the surrounding area when all he wants to do is be back in the lab, in comfortable, loose clothing and with the quiet sounds of machinery all around him. Thankfully Tony is much more occupied with the pretty young thing he's chatting up instead of noticing that he is tucked away from the majority of people, giving in and loosening his collar.

Unfortunately, so lost in his thoughts is Bruce that when a voice speaks up, he jumps. With the flutter of his heart rate, he goes through an unconscious procedure to calm his body's reaction and more importantly, the other's reaction. It only takes seconds, and most people would never notice as he feigns a hand over his heart.]

    Sorry, you startled me!

[He looks to the other man, studying him. Not someone he knows, but that is hardly a surprise. He's known fairly no one tonight, which has left him on edge. Still, he is nothing if not polite to most, so he offers his hand.]

David Bixby. Nice to meet you...? [The alias is well practiced because he's had it for a while. It was what they knew him as in Calcutta before SHIELD came for him, and Tony had made sure that name is legally safe where his true name is still a fugitive.]

    Prose Log Sample:

“Hnnn...” The sound left him as he woke, dragging himself out of the depths of sleep. It was a heavy, familiar sleep that wanted to pull him back down into the depths of it and required him to fight for every inch of consciousness. It wasn’t an unusual feeling but one he knew painfully well and knew no good could come of it.

What was unusual was cracking open his eyes and staring up at a ceiling that was still perfectly intact. Usually waking up from that kind of sleep meant broken buildings, open sky, or some other form of destruction all around him. Even stranger was the realization that not all of the blankets were metaphorical and in fact he was tucked up warm and almost comfortable in a very soft bed. All of this forced him to sit up in a hurry and in a heavy confusion, take in his surroundings.

No. No, he knew this place. Bruce let out a slow, heavy breath as tension left his body in pure relief. He was tucked up in his very own bed in Stark Tower, where he had been staying since he had ended up back in New York thanks to SHIELD, Loki, and a few thousand aliens. In fact, when he turned over in bed, he spotted the note propped up on the nightstand. The T across the front of it made him smile, which fell as he reached out to pick the note up. Every part of him felt sore, inside and out.

Bruce, found you laying in an alley in Harlem. What is your attraction to that place? No one's hurt, minimal Big Guy damage. Go back to sleep. I'll be back later. - T

Bruce's fingers refolded the note, tucking it in his palm, as he laid back down and pulled the sheets up around him. Thank you, Tony.
